Meningeal Lymphatic Vessel Discovery and Brain Abnormalities in Patients with Schizophrenia

A fairly recent study published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine researchers were able to find a lymphatics system in the brain, or more specifically in the meninges of the brain. This new pathway is believed to be associated with the glymphatic system. This finding is significant as we may be able to tell the etiology of several diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and multiple sclerosis. More information can be found the article itself at Nature, and for those of you who require more information can as always refer to Wikipedia. On another note

a very recent study has found abnormalities in the brains of of people with schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is classically known as split personality, but this is false as a split personality is known as multiple personality syndrome or dissociate personality disorder. Instead the splitting part refers to the splitting of mental functions leading to failure of recognizing reality in its true form. The exact findings in over a 2000 schizophrenic patients and 2500 healthy patients found that schizophrenics have smaller hippocampuses, amygdalae, thalamuses, accumbens nuclei, and intracranial space along with a larger globi pallidi and ventricle volume. It remains to be seen whether uncontrolled variables such as antipsychotic drugs could have caused the brain changes seen instead. The study was published in the Nature's Molecular Psychiatry Advance Online Publication and further probing can lead us an article on the publication at ScienceDaily.
